MORE ABOUT

Crack Intervention

Crack-cocaine is a combination of cocaine and other substances that is smoked. In comparison to cocaine, effects of crack-cocaine are faster, more intense, and do not last as long. It is common for people who do cocaine to look down on individuals who use crack-cocaine because it is not as pure or expensive as cocaine, however studies indicated that over 90% of cocaine users will eventually smoke or use a freebase form of cocaine like crack-cocaine. Like cocaine, use of crack-cocaine is incredibly dangerous and can result in the user developing a deep psychological addiction. There are also many health issues that can occur due to use of crack-cocaine, including respiratory failure, stroke, seizures, heart attacks, lung collapse, endocarditis, convulsions, coma and even death. Additionally, individuals abusing crack-cocaine are at increased risk of consuming a fake or impure batch of the drug, placing them at even greater risk of experiencing health issues.

If there is someone in your life who is struggling with crack-cocaine addiction and does not seem capable of stopping on their own, an intervention may be the very thing they need to realize the extent of their addiction and seek the support they need to break the cycle. At AR Intervention, we understand how difficult it can be to watch your loved ones hurting themselves or others due to their crack-cocaine addiction and are here to help. If you or someone you know requires an intervention, contact our office today at (312) 625-0024. Our intervention counselors are ready to listen, provide support, and answer any questions you have.

How Do I Know if My Loved One is Abusing Crack Cocaine?

Common indications that your loved one may be abusing crack-cocaine include:

Paranoia

Aggressive behavior

Extreme irritability/ irresponsibility

Dilated pupils

Extreme weight loss

Difficulty sleeping

Sweating

Sexual dysfunction

Increased breathing and heart rates

Difficulty breathing

Oftentimes people who have become addicted to crack-cocaine will also experience psychological, social, and financial issues, often with difficulty and/or the inability to keep a job.

The Intervention Process

A crack-cocaine intervention is considered one of the most dangerous types of interventions staged, due to the nature of the drug, which can create an aggressive behavior and that of restlessness and irritability withdrawing from. If abused over an extended period of time, your loved one may also develop psychological issues, including bipolar swings, increased irritability, and eventually detach from reality with hallucinations and delusions.

While we understand the hesitation to stage an intervention, it is important to understand that if your loved one has become addicted to crack-cocaine, they are not only a danger to themselves, they are a danger to you and those around them. Our staff is trained to help individuals who have developed an addiction to crack-cocaine and other dangerous drugs to seek the help they need to break this cycle of addiction and abuse.

Withdrawal Symptoms Following the Crack-Cocaine Intervention

Although the ultimate goal of a crack-cocaine intervention is to convince the person to stop abusing crack-cocaine, it is important to understand that they will most certainly undergo withdrawal symptoms, which may include any of the following, either independently or in combination:

Aggressive behavior

Intense physical craving

Tremors, chills, and muscle aches

Exhaustion

Restlessness

Difficulty concentrating

Increased appetite

Inability to feel pleasure (anhedonia)

Slowed thinking

Suicidal thoughts or actions

While convincing your loved one to seek treatment and detoxify under medical supervision is paramount, this is just the beginning of the recovery process. As your loved one goes through the physical progression through withdrawal, it will also be important to help them understand the underlying psychological reason(s) why they became addicted to crack-cocaine in the first place. It will be critical to develop a recovery plan for your loved to follow as they begin to build a new life, free of substance abuse and the emotional and psychological damage that addiction causes.
